Principal Conductor, GNME
January 5, 2015
Jessica Cottis appointed Principal Conductor-designate of the Glasgow New Music Expedition from 2015.
GNME is an ensemble dedicated to playing a programme of exclusively new music. At heart is a strong relationship with Scotland: helping to nurture, develop and showcase our young composers and musicians.
Drawing from the large pool of excellent young musicians in Scotland, GNME is made up of some of
the finest and forward-thinking young instrumentalists living in Scotland today. The 13-piece core
orchestra includes flautist Sarah Hayes, who fronts the indie-pop band Admiral Fallow; Davur Juul
Magnussen, well-known to Scottish audiences since his appointment as Principal Trombone of the RSNO at the age of 22; trumpeter Tom Poulson, who plays regularly with Ensemble Modern, Fraserburgh-born violist Elaine Koene, known for her long-standing work with Klangforum Wien; and well-known Scottish cellist Andrew Drummond Huggan.
Leading these musicians are two established new music specialists: Principal Violin Mieko
Kanno and Principal Conductor Jessica Cottis. Young Glasgow born-and-bred composer Richard
Greer heads the ensemble as Artistic Director: his other work has included commissions for Ensemble Modern and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra.
The 2015 season includes GNME's inaugural LAUNCH, concerts at #PLUG2015 Festival, and a collaboration with recent graduates from Glasgow School of Art.
